When considering a merger or acquisition operation in Brazil, Great Start strongly recommend that you get legal and auditing assistance to study the target company, to negotiate and to draft a letter of intentions and applicable contracts, to ensure that Brazilian legal requirements are observed.
Assessing the liabilities of the target company is important as it affect the purchasing price in the transaction. Reliable local support is therefore recommended.

BUSINESS TRAVEL TO BRAZIL

Sooner or later you want to travel to Brazil, a nation of 165 million people that is larger than the continental U.S. Most Fortune 500 companies have been in Brazil for many years. Here are our travel tips and hints:

Getting to Brazil by Air
Main gateways for Brazil are São Paulo (more business) and Rio de Janeiro (more tourism). From these cities you can make connections to anywhere in the country, as well as to other countries in South America. Both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have 2 airports each, an International one and a National one. Some northern locations such as Manaus and Recife do have also direct flights from the United States and Europe.

Brazil Climate and Weather
There are five climatic regions in Brazil: equatorial, tropical, semi-arid, highland tropical and subtropical. The seasons are the reverse of those in Europe and the United States. Cities such as Sao Paulo and Brasilia, on the plateau, have a mild climate with temperatures averaging 66°F (19°C). Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Natal and Salvador on the coast have warmer climates.

Plastic Surgery in Brazil - Brazilean Butt-Lift and more

Brazil's Ivo Pitanguy is one of plastic surgery's founding fathers. The surgeon, now 80, has performed face- lifts, breast enhancements and the "Brazilian butt-lift" on thousands of patients. He has taught more than 600 cosmetic surgeons, who are practicing in at least 43 countries, and is the inventor of procedures reproduced around the globe, including techniques for minimizing scarring.

In 2006, 50,000 foreigners traveled to Brazil for health treatments, a 65 percent jump over 2004. It’s estimated that half of them came for plastic surgery in clinics in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and northeastern beach resorts such as Fortaleza.

Plastic surgery is thriving in the U.S. and Brazil. More than 2 million procedures were done in the U.S. in 2005, up from 1.8 million in 2003, according to ASAPS. In Brazil, there were 865,000 operations, up from 621,000 in 2003.

That makes Brazil the most-popular spot for plastic surgery outside the United States -- a world center for “lipotourism”. That's wordplay on liposuction, a procedure for removing fat from chubby stomachs and sagging thighs.

Prospective patients living in countries where health care is expensive can jet to Brazil and cut the price of procedures in half, says Dr. Roberto Rizzi of clinic “Franco e Rizzi”. This is not jyst for plastic surgery but also for other surgeries such as obesity surgery, specialty of “Franco e Rizzi” clinic.

Cosmetic surgery, a privilege of the rich until the early 1980s, has become increasingly available to just about anyone with a few thousand dollars to spend. In Brazil, the middle classes have been won over by accessible prices and offers of payment on the installment plan. A patient can get a breast-lift with implants for 4,000 reais ($1,900) and a lower-body liposuction for 2,950 reais. The patient can pay in 24 monthly installments, at 4.2 percent monthly interest, or nearly 50 percent annually.

Doing Business in Brazil?

If you are travelling to Brazil for business, here are some top-notch tips on etiquette and protocol:

When doing business in Brazil, that business is seen as any other sort of social interaction; and as a result people feature much more prominently in decisions than profit-margins.

A Brazilian partner is looking for two things:
1. someone they like and trust
2. someone who is competent in business.

Time must be invested in getting to know people on a personal level in order to allow for open and honest discussions in business.

Going "straight down to business" can be seen as offensive and even aggressive.

Brazilians like to do business with people, not companies or organisations.

Brazilians like a firm handshake combined with strong eye contact. When doing business in Brazil don't be taken aback if brazilians stand very close to you when speaking.
