Doing Business in Brazil?

If you are travelling to Brazil for business, here are some top-notch tips on etiquette and protocol:

When doing business in Brazil, that business is seen as any other sort of social interaction; and as a result people feature much more prominently in decisions than profit-margins.

A Brazilian partner is looking for two things:
1. someone they like and trust
2. someone who is competent in business.

Time must be invested in getting to know people on a personal level in order to allow for open and honest discussions in business.

Going "straight down to business" can be seen as offensive and even aggressive.

Brazilians like to do business with people, not companies or organisations.

Brazilians like a firm handshake combined with strong eye contact. When doing business in Brazil don't be taken aback if brazilians stand very close to you when speaking.
